چرا شب تاریک است؟
آسمان شب یکی از اسرار آمیزترین و زیباترین پدیده های خلقت است که در طول هزاران سال گذشته دانشمندان و ستاره شناسان زیادی به تماشای آن پرداخته و حقایق جالبی درباره اش کشف کرده اند.
یکی از بدیهی ترین ویژگی های شب تاریک بودن آن است، این مسئله به قدری واضح و ساده و بدیهی به نظر می رسد که وقتی از کسی بپرسیم چرا شب تاریک است در جواب آن احتمالا می گوید چون شب است!
اما بر خلاف تصور بسیاری از افراد، پاسخ به این سوال چندان ساده نیست. در ادامه قصد داریم درباره علت تاریکی شب صحبت کنیم، با کوکا همراه باشید.
چرا شب تاریک است؟
اولین پاسخی که برای این سوال ممکن است به ذهن برسد این است که کره زمین هر 24 ساعت یک بار به دور خورشید می گردد و در طول این مدت بخشی از کره زمین که روبروی خورشید قرار ندارد و نور این ستاره به آن نمی رسد شب است و تاریک دیده می شود.
این پاسخ اگرچه درست است اما کامل نیست زیرا به جز خورشید ستاره های درخشان زیادی در کهکشان ها وجود دارند و تعداد آن ها به قدری است که می توانند هنگام شب نیز آسمان را روشن کنند. شاید تعجب کنید اما کهکشان راه شیری ما بیش از 200 میلیارد ستاره دارد و کل جهان احتمالا بیش از 100 میلیارد کهکشان در خود جای داده است.
تا قرن بیستم ستاره شناسان گمان می کردند جهان تا ابد ادامه دارد و نمی توان همه ستاره های آن را شمارش کرد اما این باور یک مشکل بزرگ داشت:
اگر اندازه دنیا بی نهایت باشد فارغ از این که به کجای آسمان شب نگاه کنیم باید همیشه نور ستاره ها را ببینیم و آسمان شب نیز مانند آسمان روز روشن باشد، درست مانند یک جنگل پر از درخت که وقتی در میان انبوه درختان آن می ایستیم به هر طرف نگاه کنیم درخت است و حتی بعضی از این درختان با یکدیگر هم پوشانی دارند.
اما اگر آسمان نیز پر از ستاره بود دیگر هرگز تاریکی شب را تجربه نمی کردیم.
این تناقض ستاره شناسانی را که گمان می کردند جهان بی نهایت بزرگ است آزار می داد زیرا دیگر توضیحی درباره تاریک بودن آسمان در هنگام شب نداشتند. این مشکل تا مدت ها به عنوان یکی از موضوعات اسرار آمیز در علم نجوم مطرح بود که به عنوان تناقص اولبرس از آن یاد می شود.
در قرن نوزدهم برخی دانشمندان برای توضیح این تناقض به این فکر افتادند که شاید ابرهای گرد و غبار بین ستاره ها مقدار زیادی از نور آن ها را به خود جذب کند و باعث می شود این نور به ما نرسد اما مدتی بعد مشخص شد اگر این طور باشد این گرد و غبارها به قدری انرژی از نور ستاره ها جذب می کنند که در نهایت خود نیز به اندازه ستاره ها گرم و روشن شده و می درخشند.
امروزه ستاره شناسان دریافته اند که جهان بی نهایت نیست بلکه محدود است یعنی اندازه محدودی دارد و حتی اگر میلیاردها میلیارد ستاره در خود جای داده باشد باز هم ستاره های کافی برای روشن کردن همه فضا در آن وجود ندارد.
اگرچه ایده محدود بودن جهان، علت تاریک بودن آسمان زمین در شب را توضیح می دهد اما دلایل دیگری نیز باعث می شوند آسمان شب تاریک تر شود. به عنوان مثال جهان نه تنها از نظر اندازه بلکه از نظر سن و سال نیز محدود است، یعنی درست مثل من و شما در نقطه ای از زمان متولد شده است.
تاریخ کامل پیدایش جهان بسیار جالب و خواندنی است اما برای پاسخ به پرسش ما، همین قدر بدانید که جهان حدود 15 میلیارد سال پیش در یک انفجار خارق العاده به نام بیگ بنگ یا انفجار بزرگ به وجود آمد و از آن زمان به بعد پیوسته در حال بزرگ شدن و گسترش یافتن است.
از آن جا که جهان هنوز در حال انبساط است ستارگان و کهکشان های درون آن نیز همواره در حال دور شدن از هم هستند و با این که هیچ چیز سریع تر از نور حرکت نمی کند اما طی کردن چنین مسافت های طولانی بین کهکشان ها باز هم زمان زیادی می برد.
بنابراین هنگامی که ستاره شناسان به یک کهکشان با فاصله یک میلیون سال نوری از زمین نگاه می کنند در واقع کهکشان را به گونه ای که یک میلیون سال نوری پیش بوده است می بینند و نوری که امروز از آن کهکشان خارج می شود حتی بیشتر از این زمان طول می کشد تا به زمین برسد زیرا فاصله کهکشان ها دائما در حال افزایش است.
به عبارت دیگر مقدار انرژی نوری که از ستارگان دور به ما می رسد دائما در حال کاهش است و هر چه ستاره ها از ما دورتر می شوند نور آن ها کمتر به ما می رسد.
همه این دلایل به همراه بسیاری موارد دیگر باعث شده آسمان شب با وجود میلیاردها ستاره در کهکشان ها همیشه تاریک بوده و تاریک بماند.

But if the sky was also full of stars, we would never experience the darkness of the night. This contradiction bothered astronomers who thought the universe was infinitely large because they no longer had an explanation for the darkness of the night sky. For a long time, this problem was considered as one of the mysterious issues in astronomy, which is referred to as the Olbers contraction. In the 19th century, some scientists thought to explain this contradiction that maybe the dust clouds between the stars absorb a large amount of their light and make this light not reach us, but some time later it became clear that if this is the case May these dusts absorb so much energy from the light of the stars that in the end they themselves become as warm and bright as the stars and shine. Today, astronomers have realized that the universe is not infinite, but limited, that is, it has a limited size, and even if it contains billions of stars, there are still not enough stars to illuminate the entire space. Although the idea of the finiteness of the universe explains why the Earth's sky is dark at night, there are other reasons that make the night sky darker. For example, the universe is limited not only in size but also in age, i.e. it was born at a point in time just like you and me. The complete history of the creation of the world is very interesting and readable, but to answer our question, just know that the world was created about 15 billion years ago in an extraordinary explosion called the Big Bang, and since then it has been continuously evolving. It is to grow and expand. Since the universe is still expanding, the stars and galaxies inside it are always moving away from each other, and although nothing travels faster than light, traveling such long distances between galaxies is still takes up a lot of time. So when astronomers look at a galaxy a million light years away from Earth, they actually see the galaxy as it was a million light years ago, and the light coming out of that galaxy today is even more. It takes time to reach Earth because the distance between galaxies is constantly increasing. In other words, the amount of light energy that reaches us from distant stars is constantly decreasing, and the farther away the stars are from us, the less their light reaches us. All these reasons, along with many others, have caused the night sky to always be dark and remain dark despite billions of stars in the galaxies.
